Summer START & Transfer START
NC State provides opportunities for new students to get a jump start on their academic and social life through Summer START. Available to new incoming first-year and transfer students, this program helps students transition to college life and NC State through summer courses recommended for their major, fun social programs, and an introduction to important campus resources. The Global Gateway Academic Preparation Program facilitates admission of top Chinese upper middle school graduates directly into undergraduate degree programs at North Carolina State University through one of two paths. Each student’s chosen path will depend upon the individual student’s English proficiency level.
Path A: Students begin their academic career in the 5-week Summer START program.
Path B: Students participate in the Summer Institute in English program for 5 weeks in the summer and a 14-week Intensive English Program in the fall before beginning their degree programs in the spring.
NC State offers many pre-college programs specifically designed for certain age groups. Whether the student is just starting to expand their educational horizon or they are on their way to becoming an NC State freshmen, pre-college programs can provide them with the opportunity to explore their interests.
