“When in doubt, always pick the color red.”

This is one household rule that the Massing family made in order to reflect their love and commitment to NC State, and something they use as a guiding principle for everyday decisions.

Although originally from Buffalo, New York, Jena Massing and her family exhibit an undeniable sense of pride in NC State. At first, when the Massing family moved to North Carolina, they were undecided about what team they would cheer for, but when their oldest son Jake chose to attend NC State, the Massing’s officially became a “Wolfpack family.” Following their older brother, Jena and her younger sister Julia decided to come to NC State too, not because they wanted to be just like Jake, but because they had fallen in love with the university for themselves.

After all their kids had chosen to attend NC State, Mike and Bridget Massing were hooked as well. Whether it was coming to every Parent and Families Weekend or encouraging their extended family to come visit State, the Massing’s became deeply invested in the NC State community and sought to support their kids, inside and outside the classroom. They even started implementing house rules like “never buy anything Carolina blue” and “the perfect gift is anything with Wolfpack on it.”

As each of the Massing kids chose to attend NC State, they began to embody the spirit of the Wolfpack even more. When Jena transferred to State, Jake was there to help her transition and adapt to life on campus. When their sister Julia came, they were able to assist her in planning her schedule and helping her request football tickets. While Jena and Julia are still students, Jake graduated in May and took a job at Lonnie Poole Golf Course, furthering his bond with the university.

It is evident that the Massing’s love NC State and are greatly committed to the university. We are so thankful for their support and are excited to announce them our 2019 Family of the Year!
