Spring Fling Reflection

This past weekend, the Parents and Families Services office hosted our annual Spring Fling Event. While this event is smaller scale than Parents and Families Weekend, it’s one of my favorites because it allows us to connect with our NC State families on an even closer level. Throughout the weekend, we hosted a variety of events including our PacKIN Action Siblings Event, the Krispy Kreme Challenge, a men’s basketball game, Paint with the Pack, Wolfpack Appreciation Breakfast, and more! Each event allowed us to meet more members of our community and engage with our Pack Families in a fun, unique way.

One of the most special events to me that our office plans and executes is the PacKIN Action siblings event. This event lets NC State students bring a younger family member to come experience our campus and do exciting activities along the way. For the first time, we were able to host PacKIN Action in Talley Student Union which was beyond amazing. Not only could our visitors get to experience one of our most central hubs on campus, but we even took them to the campus movie cinema in Witherspoon Student Center. This event is one of my favorites because it excites the younger attendees about coming to our campus while allowing them to spend time with their NC State students. At one point, I even had a participant say to me, “I can’t believe you actually go to school here, NC State is awesome.” Even though she could potentially be part of the Class of 2029, seeing her enthusiasm made my day.

When you’re working on the Parent Ally side of Spring Fling, the hours are certainly long, but they fly by so quickly. These events bring our team closer together than any point in the semester. Whether it’s working with someone on the team that you may not know as well, or bonding together before an event and sharing funny stories, we learn so much about each other. As a unified force, we come together to make these events as successful as possible. I’m so thankful to be part of a team that works so diligently and all share the same passion for our NC State parents and families.

You, Pack Families, are what make our events so special. The interactions I have with those who visit are ones I cherish and remind me why I enjoy my time as a Parent Ally so much. Spring Fling is such a great way for our families to further connect with our community and I can’t wait to see what next year has to offer.

If you weren’t able to join us this weekend, have no fear. Our biggest event of the year, Parents and Families Weekend, will be hosted from October 30th through November 1st, 2020. We hope to see you there for a weekend of fun and everlasting memories!
