Meet the Incoming Class: By the Numbers

Mr. and Ms. Wuf pose in front of a sign reading "Welcome Class of 2025."

This fall, NC State welcomes its largest incoming class in university history, with more than 5,000 first-year students arriving on campus in Raleigh, NC.

That record-breaking total was driven by a record number of applications: More than 37,000 people sought to become a first-year or transfer student at NC State. The middle 50% weighted GPA for enrolled first-year students is 4.17 to 4.48.

This year sees increases in the proportion of women students, out-of-state students, rural students, Black students, Hispanic students and first-generation students. More than a quarter of incoming students are people of color, and more than half are women. Overall, the number of new underrepresented minority students increased by 13%.

The new class comes to us from 97 North Carolina counties, 39 U.S. states and 38 countries around the world.

The top 10 programs for enrolled students? Engineering, exploratory studies, management, life sciences, animal science, psychology, political science, sport management, fashion and textile management, and environmental science.

All figures accurate as of August 13, 2021.
